August 17, 2006 Greeting, friends! It is always a joy to see how God touches hearts. I was visiting one of the mission-constituents (that is someone we care for in ministry, but as of yet is not participating in a church life) and listening to his story of pain, grief and recovery after the tragic death of his son earlier this year. His journey continues, not because the pain evaporated or the grief dissolved, but because people of faith have been there showing him that all God seeks is a heart that rest in Him, first and foremost. "Come unto me all you who are heavy burdened and I will give you rest." The actors in the spiritual journey are both God and us. As God moves towards us, we are invited to move towards him. God remains the imitator, but he waits for us to response and move towards him. Our friend was talking about the sense of rest and comfort he and his wife found because they saw their Christian friends acting as God's agents inviting them to rest in our Lord's peace. We continue to have a great ministry ahead for this church; one that will continue to invite others to feel the rest of Jesus in their hearts. If you are going through a hard time, God may not change the situation or the struggle, but he does as us to have faith in his grace in all these circumstances. If you need a little boast, take a step into the worship life of First Presbyterian and let the peace of the Anointed One, Jesus, touch your heart. It will make a world of difference. Have a blessed day! |
