PrayerA Prayer Method

Something a little guidance in talking with God can be helpful. Here's a method outlined on June 21 by Pastor John to help make your time with Jesus more nourishing.

AS YOU BEGIN, remember the name you commonly use to address God.  Maybe  it's Lord," or "Father," or "Jesus."   As approach God, simply call out this name.

GO NO FURTHER; rest in the silence of the relationship you have called your consciousness into, and listen to the silence you have invited God to share with you.  It is a silent communion.

START WITH 60 SECONDS. It's longer than you think, but it is also more powerful than you might expect.  Breath. Rest. Breath. Listen.

WHEN A THOUGHT COMES INTO YOUR MIND, GO WITH IT. Then gradually bring your attention back to the Name of God and relish the loving presence.

NEXT READ A PSALM.  Maybe it's a familiar one, or, possibly a new one.  Read not for information but for formation; not for comprehension but for apprehension;  not to think of God, let God be God.  Does the Psalm generate a thought?  Does a word grab you attention?  Allow a word to speak to you. Meditate on the word.

FINALLY, BEGIN A PRAYER JOURNAL, recording the word that caught your attention, and and your.

See if the time with God does not give you the perspective to serve our Lord with greater sensitivity as you head out into the hurt and suffering world.

God bless you in your endeavor.
