First Presbyterian Church in the Meadows

160 West State Street, Granby, MA 01033

October 29, 2009

Observation: Demographic distribution among those completing the survey is disproportionately heavy in the age group 70 (+).  Be aware that the more elderly we become, the more we reach a state of equilibrium where our spiritual growth is steady, but not explosive. This group will not be the initiators of new ministries in, through or beyond the church.  This group does have a strong, albeit quiet, peace with God.  Ministry for this group should be available as backbone for newer, younger and more spiritually energetic Christians who your “responsive evangelism” is connecting with. (see REVEAL Results 10-22-2009).

Questions: Consider asking what is the strongest gift that people in this age group bring to a church and how it can build disciples?

Next Steps:  Validate this role in the church.  This group is of a mind to embrace a ministry of hospitality.  You must take the “evangelically responsive” initiative here.  Be of service to them first and foremost. Consider connecting the older age group as warm, welcoming, “grand-parenting” types with new participants one-on-one for 12 months.     Make phone calls weekly the first month, then monthly.  Seek out the new participants at the weekend service, sit with them, introduce them to others and answer questions.  Ask about their family, their work, their joys, what they need.  Be a friend.  Build a relationship.  People want to be part of something bigger then themselves.  This age group can be a powerful force in this step.
